The Liberty Bell at Independence Hall 1920 - 1976

Stereoview #9648, Keystone View Company

Restoration work was done on Independence Hall in 1898.  Part of that restoration included a new look for the Liberty Bell on display.  A new wooden base was made for it which stood on wheels so that the Bell could be easily moved out of the Tower Room in the event of a fire.  The bronze supporting frame was retained from its previous exhibit as well as the original wooden yoke, newly reinforced with rivets, from which the Bell is hung.
