The earliest view of the Liberty Bell on display, circa 1870. The Bell is exhibited with the clapper suspended by a beam on its left and a stuffed bald eagle secured to the top. The entire display rests on a pedestal designed by Frederick Graff, Esq.

As part of the preparations for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition, the Liberty Bell was removed from its pedestal in 1873 and re-hung on its old framework from the steeple. The framework was lowered to the first floor Tower Room in Independence Hall.
