Wheat Liberty Bell of Goessel, Kansas

Wheat Liberty Bell

A full-sized Liberty Bell replica made of Turkey Red Wheat straw for the United States Bicentennial celebration in 1976. The replica was constructed by 200 local Mennonite weavers ranging in ages from 10 to 80 years and required over 2000 man hours to complete.

The wheat bell was on display in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC for two years to represent the Mennonite contribution to United States farming and agriculture. It is on permanent display at the Mennonite Heritage Complex in Goessel, Kansas.
