The Liberty Bell is very closely identified with the City of Philadelphia. Since the late 1800's, the Bell's image has been used on convention and souvenir medals and badges to commemorate an event, conference or meeting held in Philadelphia. The badges and medals worn by participants of the event served to identify the individual as an attendee of that event or as a name tag - much like the plastic name tags worn today by business conference attendees.
