Mulligan's Brigade 1863 Bounty Recruitment Broadside - recruitment poster for volunteers for the Union army. The first military draft occurred in 1863 and recruits received bounty payments for volunteering to serve. By the war's end, volunteers received half a billion dollars in bounty payments.
$100,000 Reward for Lincoln's Assassins 1865 - five days after President Lincoln's assassination, the killers remained at large. Even huge rewards, as listed on this reward poster, failed to loosen the tongues of those few who knew where John Wilkes and his accomplices hid.
